《信報》

對！我都是如此虛榮的。

《信報》- 是一份每日少於五萬份的報紙。自己拿出《信報》，在酒樓、巴士看見人家睇《信報》，我會另眼相看。同事見到我睇《信報》會大叫：?！你睇《信報》！

在香港，除了《信報》我實在找不到更好的中文報紙。我認為《信報》是香港唯一一份一日(基本上)是「睇唔晒」的報紙。《信報》的內容比其他報紙都要多(死人、塌樓、風月、跑馬、足球培率、強姦、車禍、誹聞、走光、廣告、sodoku...)除外。《信報》抵睇，因為有本地政治、國際政治、本地經濟、國際經濟、社會評論、文化評論、廣告評論、電影評論、科技前瞻、飲食、遊歷、人物專訪、健康、哲學、(中國、法國、德國、加拿大、美國的長訊、短訊)。看《信報》的樂趣是不能三言兩語可以道出的。可以說的就是《信報》是我每日的精神食糧。

我不介意《信報》的股權誰屬，但我十分介意《信報》的辦報原則是怎樣。我很擔心，打開《信報》沒有中立、一語道破的社論；沒有林行止專欄；沒有曹仁超的投資者日記；沒有突如其來的張五常連載、練乙錚連載；沒有反對政府的聲音；沒有鄭經翰、毛孟靜走出來唱反調；沒有林亦華走出來?無線；沒有簡樸簡潔的排版。

其實，我沒有什麼要求，只不過是要一份正正經經的報紙。

intel inside 的謎思

穿上無塵工衣的 Intel CEO - Paul Otellini, 拿出12吋的 silicon wafer 交給 Steve Job 說 "Steve, I want to report that Intel's ready"

這一幕就像1969年7月20日10:56 pm

Apollo-11 號太空人 N.A.Armstrong 登陸月球時說的 "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."Steve Jobs 的這一步，簡直是Apple甚至是電腦史上的一大步。


Apple 由九四年使用 IBM PowerPC 至今，經歷十一年的光景。Apple 的 CPU 由 Apple I 的 MOS Technology 6502 到 Apple Lisa/Mac XL 的 Motorola MC68000 到 Power Macintosh 的IBM PowerPC 601,603,604,750(G3), 74xx(G4), 970(G5) 再到現在的 Intel Core Duo。Apple 因為IBM 的 PowerPC 追不上當今的速度，亦解決不了散熱的問題，取Intel而捨IBM，情況就像當年Motorola一樣。

以前Apple在硬件上的獨特性在於她使用的CPU和周邊都跟 Wintel 的不同，當wintel 用IDE時，Apple用SCSI；當wintel用ISA Bus、VL Bus、PCI Bus時，Apple用Nu-Bus。 近年 Apple 不但用上和IBM PC一樣的PCI,AGP,DDR2,SATA,USB(USB是出自Apple的) 。現在更使用和 Microsoft Windows 一樣的CPU供應商，我們豈不是要改口說 app-tel ？

intel inside 這過 campaign 本來是用來對付 AMD 和 Cyrix 的。當時 AMD 用 reverse engineering 破解了 intel 的 x86 指令。intel 擔心AMD 用平價搶走電腦商和普通買家，因為沒有人會知道,灰白色的機相內是 intel 或是 AMD 的 CPU，所以 intel 一方面大造"intel inside"的campaign，一方面要求電腦商貼上"intel inside"的 label。亦因為 AMD 推出了用 x86 的速度作指標的 CPU，所以 intel 將 486以後的 CPU 改為 Pentium 和 Itanium。

相信很多人會擔心用上 intel 的 Mac OS 不及 PowerPC 的 Mac OS 穩定。但我認為情況就像當年由 Motorola 轉為 PowerPC 一樣。最初可能會有些 imcompatible 的情況，不過相信 Apple 很快可以解決有關問題，而用家可以很快看見新 CPU 的力量。 Apple 的強項是UI，compatibility 應該不是問題，使用平價的 intel CPU 可望有助 apple 開拓更大、更多、更平的市場。

可是，最令我擔心的是，我們日常使用的電腦，大多數是用 intel 的。Microsoft Windows 用 intel (多數，AMD只佔10~20%)、Microsoft Windows Server 用 intel (現沒有 digital 了，當然有太陽和 IBM 的存在)、Pocket PC 即 Microsoft Windows CE 用 intel (Palm 已經......唉)、Apple 開始用 intel。看來電腦的未來不是受 Bill Gate 所操控，而是 intel ！

Gordon Moore (intel 的 co-founder) 說過 "The number of transistors incorporated in a chip will approximately double every 24 months"，現在我們應該說"The number of intel's market will approximately double every 24 months"

Live between Franz Ferdinand and Oasis

世事就是這樣的，久等不來，一來，來兩隊。

在http://www.hkticketing.com/看到呆了。

2月14日，Franz Ferdinand $780 $580 $480，伊利沙伯體育館 。
2月25日，Oasis $750,$550,$450,$300，新場，亞洲國際博覽館。

Franz Ferdinand 後生，有活力，夠潮。Oasis 此終是情意結，飲恨當年沒有看會展的Live，可惜只喜歡Definitely Maybe 和What's The Story) Morning Glory?，怕Oasis多玩新歌而少舊歌。

雖說，過完年有多餘錢。但是一個月內，來兩隊。心想2006年，第一件要做的事是 ─ 破產。

Feist: the musician from Lacoste

去年零四年 Lacoste 的香水廣告 "Touch of Pink" 唱紅了來自丹麥的美少女 Natasha Thomas。今年零五年 Lacoste 的香水廣告 "Essential For Men" 則唱紅了來自加拿大的唱作人 Leslie Feist。Lacoste 的 "Essential For Men"，找來超級帥的男模 Axel Hermann，加上 Leslie Feist 一首節奏清新又活潑的 Mushaboom，令這個廣告十分吸引，份外誘人。


原來聲音有點沙啞的 Leslie Feist 來頭不小，來自加拿大的 Calgary 省，在中學時代已經玩 punk 。曾經為 Ramones 的演唱會作 opening。曾經因為過度勞損了聲帶，被醫生告訴她不可以再唱歌。

其後 Feist 為 Divine Right 當結他手。於九九年推出了第一張個人大碟 Monarch。在二千年跟玩 electroclash 的 Peaches 合作，其後於零二年跟加拿大的 Broken Social Scene 合作。於零四年推出了第二張個人大碟 Let It Die。期間亦跟 不同的單位合作，例如有 Kings of Convenience, Apostle of Hustle 和 Jane Birkin 。

不一樣的聖誕 by Projekt - Excelsis ~ a dark noel

Projekt 的聖誕音樂合輯？Projekt 不是出 darkwave 和 gothic 的嗎？誰說聖誕音樂不可以是darkwave 、不可以是gothic。 聖誕是不一定是快樂的，聖誕音樂是亦不一定要是普世歡騰的，聖誕音樂可以是黑暗、恐怖和令人心寒的。

Projekt在十年前就推出了這「不合邏輯」的合輯 Excelsis ~ A Dark Noel ，更在99年推出了Excelsis ~ A Winter's Song，和2001年推出了Excelsis ~ A Prelude。Excelsis ~ A Dark Noel更成為Projekt最暢銷的合輯之一。

多年前的聖誕的前夕，在仍然位於佐敦普慶廣場的 monitor 門前，看見一張很大的Excelsis海報。背叛了天國的天使，站在陰暗黑夜，我二話不說我就買了，立即在 monitor 門前取出CD未回家已聽了幾遍。心想，對了，找到了，這才是像樣的聖誕音樂。

重頭戲有 black tape for a blue girl 的 Chanukkah, Oh Chanukkah，有漲力地滲出中世紀的泛音。Love Spirals Downwards 的 Welcome Christmas 則令人想起 Cocteau Twins 的招牌結他 effect 美麗又溫暖。Lycia 的 We Three Kings 用上大量effect，像地獄傳來的聲音。

FuchiKachis Ethu 的 Oh Come All Ye Faithful 強而有力詠唱，伴上輕輕的結他chord弦樂。This Ascension 玩了有 gothic 味的 Carol of the Bells。Arcanta 則用純詠唱的方式唱出 Carol of the Bells。Thanatos 用了超低沈的聲音，伴上結他唱出 The First Noel。 Lovesliescrushing 的 Jingle Bells 是慢半拍和充滿結他noise的聖誕音樂。Balderas & Osborne 用上華爾滋的曲式，為 What Child Is This? 添上華麗與蒼涼。Autopsia在悽涼的風聲下,用德語唱出"Stille Nacht" "德語唱曲。Eva 0 的 O Holy Night 雖說不是 metal, 但很有 Lacrimosa 味道。Faith and the Muse 的 A Winter Wassail 很特別，有點像東歐小國的舞曲。

Autopsia 的 Stille Nacht 和 Attrition 的 Stille Night 各有不同。Autopsia 是唱德語的黑天使合唱團，在平安夜，於寒風一步一步走向地獄。Attrition 是於平安夜座坐在太空站等待救援的小天使。

Lost in My Bloody Valentine

每次想起 Lost in Translation「迷失東京」都令我想起 My Bloody Valentine 的 Sometimes。那段貫穿整曲，豐滿而又漲力的結他noise，加上溫柔的電琴聲，還有Kevin Shields迷人的歌聲，實在使人聽得無法自拔。

還有 The Jesus & Mary Chain 的 Just Like Honey、Death in Vegas 的Girls、Squarepusher 的 Tommib。聽著soundtrack，電影內的畫面，就在腦海?一幕一幕地浮現。

有時候，我實在分不清，是因為 Sofia Coppola 的畫面，令我愛電影的 soundtrack。還是好像當年的 The Virgin Suicides，因為 Air 的音樂，才令我愛上她的電影。

Sofia Coppola 就是有這樣的魔力，就是這樣的天才。無論是她的電影，或是她所選擇的音樂，都會使人愛上。

不一樣的聖誕 by Cocteau Twins

Cocteau Twins 的Snow EP:

買了Lullabies to Violaine的朋友,會發現disc 3有兩首非常她好聽的聖誕歌：Winter Wonderland 和 Frosty the Snowman。

其實這兩首聖誕歌是來自 Cocteau Twins 於1993年12月發表的 EP ─ Snow。據說 Snow 只是發行了極少量。而Frosty the Snowman 單曲最初是發表於九二年第五期的 Volume CD Magazine。

個人認為Elizabeth Fraser 那甜美的歌聲,是最完美的heavenly voice示範，她的歌聲簡直就是天使的化身，代表了天國的聲音，溫柔地唱出節日的歡欣。加上Simon Raymonde和Robin Guthrie一貫獨特的結他arrangement為首兩單曲加添上無限的聖誕氣氛。Robin 的歌詞亦細緻地寫了冬日?的快樂氣氛。

只可惜我們在香港無緣和雪人玩耍。

不一樣的聖誕 by Belle and Sebastian

又到聖誕，又是各大小商場、店舖，把放在倉底的陳年聖誕歌拿出來大播特播的時候。這些了無新意的聖誕歌，來來去去不是廟街兒童合唱團，就是女人街電子合成管弦樂，總是讓大家聽得精神分裂。聖誕既然是快樂的日子〈其實我不同意，聖誕是快樂的〉不如找一些不一樣的聖誕歌，來聽聽。

Belle and Sebastian 在 2002 年十二月十八日 John Peel 的節目內玩了一場別開生面的聖誕 session。

Belle and Sebastian 除了正正經經地玩了幾首聖誕歌，好像 Oh Come All Ye Faithful、Silent Night、O Come O Come Emmanuel。又有玩了 Jazz 版的 Christmas Time Is Here、O Little Town Of Bethlehem。Rock 版的 Santa Claus。James Brown 版的 Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto。Elvis Presley 版的 Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me。牛仔版的 I Took Some Time For Christmas。

還有用勁低B的電子琴拌奏加上很多古古怪怪的青蛙叫,吹口哨,吹BB,手風琴組成的 The Twelve Days of Christmas，唱到一半更有人扮聖誕老人大叫: ho,ho! (我懷疑是john peel)令全場人大笑，而且唱到甩beat兼走音。真正的快樂氣氛十足。

當然有自家的幾首 Step Into My Office、Jonathan David Photo、Jenny、If You Find Yourself Caught In Love、The Boy With The Arab Strap、Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying。

可惜這好玩又好聽的 peel session 只有 bootleg, 有心人要用用辦法找了。

Belle and Sebastian - Radio 1 Peel Session Christmas Special

我喜歡看的雜誌是....

我都冇睇本地的"潮"雜誌好耐，好似《Milk》、《東Touch》。與其要睇扮日文的雜誌，不如睇直接睇 《relax》、 《studio voice》、《casa》 估估下重好! 起碼人家日本雜誌冇無謂廣告，冇低能口號， 印刷又靚!《Milk》和《東Touch》來來去去又咪係抄日本野，俾盡抄埋《iD》、《Dazed and confused 》、《Wallpaper》夠未!

我發覺內地的雜誌好睇好多，《周未畫報》、《城市畫報》、《藝術世界》、《新視線》、《城市中國》、《 青年視覺vision 》、《TOM》和好耐以前的《視覺21》。其實香港好多有料的潮人或稱文化人,都在內地的雜誌供稿,好似黎堅惠,歐陽應霽,陳冠中,李照興,黃源順….

台灣雜誌亦好好睇，好似《誠品好讀》、《INK印刻文學生活誌》、《ppaper》和《Net and Books 網路與書》。

其實,我小時都係睇《東Touch》大的,不過比較懷念曇花一現的《MAG》。我認為香港現今只有《信報月刊》,《茶杯》,《號外》,《 E+E 》和免費的《藝訊》,《HK magazine》,《讀好書》好睇。

不竟，年紀大了、心態變了、潮不了、亦潮不起!

12.4 - 讓我們 rage against the machine!

十月廿八日，一位從 1984 年等到 2005 年，現時 78 歲的香港人。在各大報章買下全版廣告,說：「告訴我，我會看見普選的一天嗎？」

這廣告令人感到震撼的同時，亦令人更感到香港人很可憐。《基本法》賦予香港人的權利，香港人的政府偏偏，一次又一次地回避香港人的訴求，漠視香港人意願。

香港政府的行為極其可惡、令人髮指、忿怒不堪。此情此景，使我想起 Rage Against The Machine 的音樂和歌詞。雖然我不會像RATM 般激進,一行四人在 Lollapalooza 音樂會的台上，光著身子抗議 PMRC 和支持無政府主義。但今天再聽 Boomtrack 和 Killing in the name ，其 power riff、 guitar solo 和控訴式的歌詞簡直令人聽得痛快。雖然香港沒有像 RATM 的樂對勇於指責政府的不是，但我們依然可用行動表達我們的意願。

大戲院

不知可固，對於在大戲院看戲，是特別有動感覺和印象的。

第一套在大戲院看的“電影”就是小時候，跟舅父在嘉禾戲院看的《IQ傅士》，坐在超等的樓梯口，記憶猶新。

十多歲，動用了自己的利士基金，好像是三十多元。在佐敦的華盛頓戲院看了《風之谷》，此後愛上了宮崎駿。

對上一次在大戲院看戲，就是在旺?的“舊”金聲，看的是《朱麗葉與梁山伯》。

不但懷念大戲院的超等、樓梯、座椅和闊大的銀幕；更加懷念的大戲院的售票員和手畫戲票。每次走到穿上紅色制服的女售票員面前,說出日期和時間,等售票員打開寸多厚、兩呎乘兩呎的座位圖，用手指指著第幾行的第幾個位置，售票員就會用粗水筆在座位號碼上畫上記號，然後送上粉紅色、薄薄戲票。

現在就只有走到戲院或在家中，對著電腦買票，拿著一式一樣電腦戲票，對號入座。

mum 於十二月三日在台灣演出，為什麼總是不來香港！

心愛的冰島樂隊 mum 於十二月三日在台灣演出，真可惡！為什麼總是不來香港！一次又一次，mum、four tet、ladytron、Morcheeba、Eleni Karaindrou、陳綺貞，他們去台灣、去堔圳、去澳門都不來香港！點解！香港有毒麼？還是香港真的是沒有音樂市場？

不過，十二月四日一定要留在香港參加遊行，想去台灣都去不了！

尤記得上次 Chemical Brothers 來會展大 Hall 少人得可憐，不知有沒有一千人；上月石野卓球來港，被安排在已經執粒的茶餐廳打碟；還有不少國際出名爆場的樂手、樂隊、DJ來港都遇上冇人來、座位空掉大半的場面。對於草蜢、祖兒、安仔、twins的“演唱會”就場場爆滿的香港來看，香港真的是沒有真正的音樂市場。

Eleni Karaindrou

真羨慕羅展鳳可到台北聽Eleni的演奏會。

一連幾日，天色陰暗，天氣悶熱又潮濕。連聽音樂的選擇和心情也是灰灰暗暗的。這幾日就是在聽 Eleni Karaindrou 的 Music for film 和 Eternity And A Day。

相信很多人愛上 Eleni Karaindrou 的音樂都是由安哲羅普洛斯〈 Theo Angelopoulos 〉的電影開始的。而我發現 Eleni Karaindrou 就是由 Jan Garbarek 開始的。前年才在藝術節認識 Jan Garbarek，立即愛上他獨特的 Saxophones，然後在圖書館抄 Jan Garbarek 和 ECM 的出品。接著發現 Jan Garbarek 出現在 Eleni Karaindrou 的 Music for film，然後遇上 Eleni Karaindrou 的 Eternity And A Day。

愛上 Eleni Karaindrou 的音樂，就是因為她的音樂優美、動聽、有點哀傷，再配上 Theo Angelopoulos 的畫面，實在令人感動。

無話可說

不是新 ipod, 是 FM3 的 Buddha Machine

不是新 ipod，是 FM3 的 Buddha Machine。在 engadget 見到這個“Buddha Machine”，有點似曾相識。不是那部佛堂、齋堂、公公婆婆的至愛，由早到晚，不斷 loop “南無阿彌陀佛”的念佛機嗎？

原來這個"念佛機"是國內一隊玩 ambient 的樂團 FM3 的"唱片" Buddha Machine，但他們不以黑膠、CD、MP3 發行他們的"唱片"，竟然用上這個 soundbox 作為音樂的媒介/載體。這樣 lo-fi 又好玩的"唱機"，有點反 ipod、反 digitalization，而回到 analogue 的意味。想相信是史上唯一發行"唱片"的同時，亦發明了一個新的音樂媒介/載體。

這個 soundbox 內置一個 switch 用來控制九個 looping〈九首音樂〉, 一個小喇叭,一個 phone jack, 用兩粒 AA 電。由德國唱片公司的 Staalplaat 發行。

據說　─　Brian Eno 一口氣買了八部!　FM3 Buddha Machine 初回三百部，再版八百部，不知還有沒有貨。
